Summer Style
Reflections on Global Creativity, Craft & Culture from Harper & Benita, the founders of Proud Mary
Summer dressing is a color and print conversation. So is decorating our homes…same instinct, different application.
The most inspiring people I know are holistic in this way. Their wardrobe and their homes tell the same story. Style isn’t contained, it pours across everything. The way a space feels, the way you move through the world, what you choose to live with and what you choose to wear. It’s all one thing.
I’ve been matching summer looks to Proud Mary art all week. A few pairs I’m loving…
Stripes on Stripes
I never met a stripe I didn’t like.
There's a specific kind of confidence in wearing stripes on stripes. The same energy lives in Hermana, vertical rhythm, bold shades of red, structured but softened by the obvious touch of hand by the women weavers of Colibri.
Layered Pattern
I’m a sucker for a madras plaid and a woman who doesn't dress quietly. Polonia was made for this look. Created by Santa Catarina, a group of four women from Pantelhó, Chiapas — Silvia, Julieta, Rebeca, and María Ananí. Silvia learned backstrap weaving from her mother, Polonia, and has since passed it down to her daughters. This piece is as layered as the knowledge passed down through generations.

Fleurs for Summer
I love Hart’s Summer style. Slightly tropical, slightly French — it strikes a perfect balance. We would definitely pair this look with Flora, a dense embroidery piece by the women of Las Dalias. Beautiful but not at all precious.
Stay inspired.
